I went to my precinct caucus, and for the first time ever worried that I might not get to go to the county convention. Usually about 6 people show up, sometimes as many as 10, and our precinct has nearly 30 delegate chairs to fill. Today, hundreds showed up and waited and waited and waited for the polling to finish. Two hours after the caucus was supposed to begin, signup finally started. 231 people signed in. I don’t know that we’ve ever sent a complete delegation to the county convention, but we did it this year — in spades!
Voter turnout in my precinct was unbelievable — nearly 50%!!! Out of the 1400+ registered, active voters in our precinct, 700 voted in the early election or today, with twice as many voting early as late.
Oh, and for those keeping track, Obama won precinct 433, 19 delegates to 10.

I was actually pretty excited that 2 of the delegates we sent from 404 were young people who only really started caring about politics because of Obama’s campaign. I think going to the convention will be a big boost for their awareness and engagement.
For everyones kvetching about the caucus process, this seems to be one of the big boosts — because it requires you to show up to caucus, it has the potential to really engage people in the party process who may have otherwise just considered showing up at the primary as all they had available as options.
For the record, 404 sends 4 for Obama and 2 for Clinton.

You know, I was pleasantly surprised at our meeting. We started sharply at 7:15, processed 285 signature caucus in less than an hour, voted a permanent chair & secretary for the night and finished elected delegates by 10PM. Wham, Bam! I was very impressed.
For the record 409 sends 17 for Obama and 7 for Clinton
