I think that the way that sports organizations are penalizing alleged “dopers” is hypocritical madness. The recent meltdown of Marion Jones is only the most recent chapter of this sordid novel. Witness the gentle implosion of this year’s Tour de France as another example.
I don’t understand why it matters. We pay people to train until nearly dead for the sole purpose of competition, but then we’ll arbitrarily decide which dietary and biological ‘additives’ are okay and which ones aren’t. So some people want to tempt death to win a race? Is the world somehow smaller because one less runner or weightlifter isn’t sucking in air?
American Football, for all its other faults, at least has the right idea about the proper boundaries of steroid use: absolutely no exposed feminine breasts on the field!
